It is the fifth distinct generation of the muscle/pony car to be produced since its original introduction in 1967. Production of the fifth generation model began on March 16, 2009 after several years on hiatus since the previous generation's production ended in 2002 and went on sale to the public in April 2009 for the 2010 model year. Unveiled at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, the ZL1 is a high-performance variant of the Camaro SS. At least 30 percent of the parts on the ZL1 are exclusive to the model. The car features a 6.2 L; 376.0 cu in LSA V8 engine with a 1.9 L supercharger which produced a maximum boost pressure of 7 psi (0.48 bar). The engine has a power output of 580 hp at 6,000 rpm and 556 lbft of torque at 4,200 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheels by either a six-speed manual (TR-6060) or a 6L90 automatic transmission. To improve shift quality, there are triple synchros in some gears and a revised linkage.
